Do You Enjoy Curling Up with a Good Audiobook?

Dear Reader,

Are you also a listener? I am not. I like to read in bed, but I’m not big on listening in bed, and I don’t travel enough daily or even weekly to get into an audiobook. What about you? I hear the audiobook market is booming. To win a free audiobook of Lord Despair, Lord Anguish, or Lord Vile, please leave a comment here about why you like audiobooks or where you listen to them. I have about twelve to give away, and will announce the winners here and in my next newsletter on April 15th!

If there is one audiobook in particular you want, please mention it in the comments.
Thanks and good luck!!

    1. My boss used to say the same when I worked in an office. He went through a ton of books while driving to and from customers’ houses. I guess that’s one reason I never started. For most of my career, I’ve had a short commute from my bedroom to my home office. 🙂

    2. You won Lord Despair. Write to me at sydney@sydneyjanebaily an d I will send you the code for a free download. Congrats! And thank you for your interest in my books.

    1. I sympathize with the migraines, as I get them, too. I honestly never thought about cutting down my computer or reading time to keep them at bay. That’s a very smart idea. Thanks.

    2. You won Lord Anguish. Write to me at sydney@sydneyjanebaily and I will send you the code for a free download. Congrats! And thank you for your interest in my books.

  1. I didn’t used to have the patience for Audio books since I’m an avid reader but have really gotten hooked on it recently. I started a new job a few months ago and work from home. I’m finding that I like to retreat from my family room work space in the evening to my bedroom more and more now. It’s wonderful to just be able to lay down, relax and listen to an audio book. I sometimes listen to them after I turn the lights off and before going to sleep so I can hear a good story but reduce my “screen time” since I’m on a computer all day. I love hearing the readers doing the different voices for the story as well. I generally purchase Audible books or listen to one from their Plus Catalog which is a bit similar to Kindle Unlimited. By listening to them on my echo, it is easy to start, pause and to go back ward in the story if I miss something or if I fall asleep on it.

    1. Brilliant! Yes, I think I might like to listen in the dark when there’s nothing else I should be doing. Sometimes even on its dimmest setting, my Kindle just feels too bright at night. Plus, I have found a narration team who will bring my Defiant Hearts series to life with sound effects. I’m very excited. Not only will there be a different male and female voice but also steam train sounds, horse’s hooves, carriages, etc. So the audiobook will be like a mini-play. 🙂

  2. I love in the Ocala Forest. It’s 45 minutes to the nearest story. Except for black bears, deer and other forest animals. I like toread listen to books.

    1. The Ocala Forest! Sounds so exotic. I had to look it up to find out it was in Florida. Forty-five minutes is a long way to the nearest store. Thank you very much for being one of my readers. And I hope you and your bears and your deer have a great day! Thanks for entering to win.

    2. You won Lord Anguish. Write to me at sydney@sydneyjanebaily and I will send you the code for a free download. Congrats! And thank you for your interest in my books.

  3. I like listening to them while at my desk attempting to be productive. I would very much enjoy the first of the series, Lord Despair. ALL of them are wonderful stories.

    1. While attempting to be productive! HAHA! That’s me in a nutshell on many a day. Thanks for entering and for reading my stories. Your kind words are much appreciated.

  4. I recently started listening to audio books while I do my art work. I find it helps me create and I thoroughly enjoy someone reading to me while I create.❤️

    1. That’s a perfect time to listen. I used to do a little oil painting, and I loved to listen to music or podcasts. I didn’t own any audio books back then, but if I go back to painting, I would certainly enjoy listening. I cannot listen to anything except instrumental music while writing, probably for obvious reasons. Take care.

    2. You won Lord Anguish. Write to me at sydney@sydneyjanebaily and I will send you the code for a free download. Congrats! And thank you for your interest in my books.

  5. I listen to audiobooks ALL the time! I love that I can multitask…prepare meals, do housework, exercise, make the miles fly by on long trips, even listen in the tub with no worries of dropping my book in the water!

    1. All great ways to multitask! You’re right about the tub. On the rare occasions I treat myself to a deep soak, I take my Kindle and live in fear of losing 400 books at once!

    2. You won Lord Anguish. Write to me at sydney@sydneyjanebaily and I will send you the code for a free download. Congrats! And thank you for your interest in my books.

  6. I am not a fan of audio books. I much prefer reading stories as opposed to listening to them. I find it to be the equivalent of watching a movie instead of reading the book version. I like to picture the characters the way I see them in my head, and it is the same with their voices. Sometimes the voice of the narrator doesn’t fit with the picture I have in my head, and it can ruin a story for me. That being said, I do listen to them on occasion. My two exceptions are: when driving in the car and when I want to borrow a book from my local library and all they have is an audio version.

    1. I worry about narrator’s voice, too. The man who narrated these three Beastly Lords audio books, Tim Campbell, is superb, but he’s not going to be my heroine, no matter how hard he tries. When I’m listening though, I just think of him as reading me a story rather than being the characters, if that makes sense. For my Defiant Hearts series, I have a man and a woman doing the separate parts for the first time, so that will be fun to listen to for me, bringing my characters to life with sound effects and everything. 🙂

  7. Honestly I have yet to listen to an audiobook but I think I would listen to one in the car or while taking a walk

    1. Good idea. Weather is just turning better here where I live in New England, and I’ll be taking more walks. I miss my dog so much, passed four months ago, I almost don’t want to walk. An audiobook would help.

  8. Audio books are the best way to enjoy reading while traveling. My eyes are on the road and my ears are tuned into the story! When I was finishing my college degrees, I listened to audio books while traveling to and from college. Then, I quickly made relevant notes upon arrival for my literature classes. I also read hard copies, paperback copies, and on my tablet. Thanks to the many authors who supply me with enjoyable reading.

    1. Yes, I don’t go anywhere, that’s probably why I haven’t got into the habit of listening, but I am going to get more audiobooks for walking.

  9. I love audiobooks because I can listen any time while multi-tasking with chores areound the house!

      1. Like Sponge Bob says, “The best time to wear a striped sweater is all the time.” Probably same for audio books. 🙂

    1. Elle, you won Lord Vile. Write to me at sydney@sydneyjanebaily and I will send you the code for a free download. Congrats! And thank you for your interest in my books.

  10. I love audio books!…I have been an avid reader from the time I first learned to read and still enjoy it when I have time to sit and read or at bed time…BUT audio books are great any time I’m traveling by car, air, or train (not when driving in heavy traffic though), when I’m out for a walk alone, when I’m doing any chores or mundane tasks, and sometimes at night when I want to be read to sleep 🙂 With Hoopla or Overdrive I can set a timer for when the book should stop based on about how long I think it will take to fall asleep, so the next day, it doesn’t take long to find where I left off in the book.

    1. You are a pro with the timer and all. I didn’t know Hoopla and Overdrive had those tools. Thanks!

  11. Now that I have my Cochlear Implant and can understand words again? I listen on the way to dog agility competitions. They keep me awake on the sometimes monotonous drives.

    1. Deb, that’s fabulous about the ear implants. They must be such a blessing. My father was hard of hearing since his 40s, and then toward the end of his life, we tried the fanciest hearing aids, but still not very good. I know it was extremely frustrating for him. And then you mention the dog agility competitions! Wow! I would love to attend one of those. What type of dog(s) do you enter or do you just go to watch for fun?
